Engineered Stone Ban Commences 1st July 2024
The nationwide ban on the use, supply and manufacture of all engineered stone commences from 1 July 2024.
Engineered stone is defined as an artificial product that:
Contains at least 1% crystalline silica as a weight/weight concentration, and
Is created by combining natural stone materials with other chemical constituents (such as water, resins, or pigments), and
Becomes hardened.
What are the transitional arrangements for existing contracts to install engineered stone benchtops?
* From 1 July, if you are performing an engineered stone process you must treat the work as high-risk crystalline silica work (HRCSW).
Repairs, minor modifications, removal and disposal of engineered stone benchtops, panels or slabs installed prior to the ban (legacy stone) will be permitted, with the required precautions for HRCSW.
